Choosing your wedding theme

March 13, 2019

Between the colors, dresses, flowers, linens, and decor, creating a well-coordinated look for your wedding can sometimes feel like a daunting task! Before you know it you’ve made umpteen decisions and are not even sure how anything fits together anymore. One of the best things you can do once you start your wedding planning is to pick a theme and stick to it.

Picking a theme will help give you the framework to make other decisions from. Some people choose a more specific theme (ie. rustic glam, or vintage elegance, summer nautical). But sometimes themes can be as simple as designing the look around the season that your wedding is in or a basic color palette (ie. spring flowers & pastel hues, warm autumn tones, or just varying blends of your desired color).

Another option is to identify the feeling or mood you would like your wedding to convey. Whether you gravitate towards a romantic and intimate event or are looking for a bold, fun, party atmosphere, having a theme in place will guide your planning process and make your details come together. Once you have your theme decided on you can rely on this vision for everything; from your invites and decor, to the bouquets & floral arrangements, right down to the food served at the reception and the venue location itself.

Disclaimer: Now just because you’ve had an epiphany to have the most beautiful beach themed wedding, does not mean you run out and go on a shopping spree to find every seashell printed, patterned, or designed looking item out there, just because you think it fits your theme. It is possible to go overboard with a theme and sometimes the old adage “less is more” does play a role.

This is also where wedding planners specialize in helping you turn your ideas into a vision for the entire day. They have the experience and resources to carry out a theme from the beginning to end while keeping you on track and in budget.
